Woods Creek Park
Woods Creek Park lies along the path of Woods Creek as it flows from
Waddell Elementary School to the Maury River at Jordan's Point. It
is a 2 mile long, passive recreation facility jointly owned by the
City of Lexington, Washington and Lee University, and the Virginia
Military Institute.
The trail begins near Waddell Elementary School as a landscaped and manicured
green area with wide expanses of lawn for 0.6 mile. The next 0.2
mile portion of the City owned park is a minimally altered nature trail
running through the wooded areas along the creek. At the Route
60, West Nelson Street Bridge, the trail enters the campus of Washington
and Lee University, crosses the grounds, and then joins the old C&O
Railroad roadbed on the VMI Post. The trail follows the roadbed
across the VMI Post until it ties into the City owned Jordan's Point
Park.
The Public Works Department only maintains the City owned sections of
the park and the colleges maintain the park on their properties at their
expense. [back] |
